Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:   What if I am working during FCT hours?

ANSWER:   Since FCT is a traveling tutorial class, not a conventional schoolroom or daycare, sometimes child care coverage and/or rides to the class require additional planning.
Does your job allow for time to transport your little one?
Is there a friend or relative willing to provide rides and/or child care coverage?
Is there an at-home neighbor who'd like to enroll a student?  Would she be willing to provide rides                and/or child care?
If you are an at-home mom, perhaps you would be interested in providing child care for an FCT                    classmate or two.
QUESTION:   How do I know if my child is ready for First Class?

ANSWER:   Your child is ready for First Class if he or she can sit quietly for periods of time, take turns, and follow clear, repeated instructions.  FCT offers a two-week trial period to assure that the student is ready to participate.
QUESTION:   Is First Class Tutorials a Christian program?

ANSWER:   Yes!  We begin and end each class with prayer.  Our curricula has been carefully vetted to honor God.  Our character-training is all geared to help students understand and grow in Biblical traits such as integrity, perseverance, responsibility, determination, and more.

QUESTION:   Are parents welcome?

ANSWER:   At First Class Tutorials, parents are always welcome!  We are unable, however, to provide any teaching or childcare for younger siblings.

QUESTION:   Would FCT accept older students?

ANSWER:   We have, in a few cases, been able to accommodate older children of home schooling families.  In these cases, the students were not yet proficient in reading or math, and the parents asked if they would be welcome.  Not only were the children welcomed by their classmates, but they were successful at mastering the fundamentals that FCT introduced.  First Class Tutorials is really that: the First Class needed to begin a mastery of reading and mathematics in a fun, painless manner.

QUESTION:   Is there a 1 or 2 day option available?

ANSWER:   At this time, our schedule for the year only allows for 3 classes, each running for 2.5 hours per day over 3 days per week, for a total of 7.5 hours of tutoring per week.

QUESTION:   What do we do after our First Class year?

ANSWER:   Short answer:  whatever works best for your family.  We are currently developing First Class 2.0, which would be the ideal follow up year, continuing the next level of lessons using the same, excellent curricula.  Some families continue to educate their students at home,  while others enrolled students in public or private school.  In each case, the FCT graduate had a great advantage, with a sound foundation in place from which to launch ahead!
